“Ani, how are you feeling?” Calix was immediately by my side. The low rumble of his voice was comforting.

I squeaked and then flushed lightly when I realized that Calix was waiting for an answer. “I’m good.”

A small smile played on his lips.

“Hey.” I heard Alex’s voice. It was low and soft but powerful enough to send chills through my body.

Horrible thoughts coursed through my mind. I remembered how he aimed his sword at me without thinking twice.

“What are you doing here?” My voice was edged with anger and barely concealed disappointment.
